Sunset Haven
Based on the Lesotho boarder, the farm has steep inclines and great lookout spots, a true sunset haven.
Bush was a thick which added to the experience.
Jacques is a knowledgeable PH that would stop at nothing to get you, your throphy.
The game is plentiful and are in pristine condition.
While the accommodation is luxurious, it has this homely resonance of comfort.
Im sure I'll be back for one of those mesmerising Lechwe rams.

Planning my next hunt
I had always wanted to hunt out west and this adventure didn’t disappoint. Even though the deer population was way down and competitive, our guide found areas on the map no one was hunting and now I’m heading home with a great buck in the back of the truck. They truly cared about us having a great experience, all around, and worked tirelessly to make it happen. I’ll be reaching out to them again for my next hunt!

Victor was well versed in coordinating travel provided an excellent hunt worked extremely well with the gamekeeper. Accommodations were fantastic, food also. Victor does great job explaining all aspects of the trip. I would highly recommend first time traveling hunters to use Victors services.

Elk Hunt
This is a real hunt. Hard work, lots of physical exercise. This is not a country for someone new to hunting. There is nothing I didn't like that our guide/outfitter had control over. A real authentic hunt. The Wilderness Act of 1964 makes this a hunt that relies on manpower and perserverance. No motors or wheels allowed, no chainsaws or electric winches. Lots of beautiful scenery and mountains. Miles of hiking in the roughest terrain. Loved every minute of it even though the terrain left me battered and bruised!

Amazing professional hunters, beautiful country
Luke was my primary guide while Duncan was my guide for the chamois hunt. Both having grown up in the New Zealand mountains, they could both hike/climb like our target animals, but they were patient with my lesser abilities. Their ability to spot animals was impressive. My trip was in mid-April 2023, and the red stag roar and fallow “grunt” was full-on, but the tahr and chamois rut was to start about a month later. For my hunt, we went to three different areas at least 50 miles apart, and I stayed in three different accommodations. Carla the manager did a good job with juggling logistics with the different hunting groups.

Real hunting in wild Africa
This was the most authentic and adventurous hunting experience I've ever had in Africa. When it's dark and your car is stuck in the long grass with a fresh buffalo carcass onboard, and you know for a fact there are lions nearby, it doesn't get any more real or thrilling than that...
We hunted in two areas: Matetsi ECA and Matetsi Unit 5. Saw lots of plains game and elephants in both, but for buffalo Unit 5 proved to be superior with many extremely large herds. A couple of times there were fresh dugga boy tracks in the ECA and once even a large herd, but overall I felt chances for getting one there weren't very good this time of the year compared to Unit 5 (October).
I shot two impalas and two kudus in addition to the buffalo, but we also had very good chances for eland, bushbuck, giraffe and hyena. Lions were also often there. Shingi the PH and his crew really knew where to go to efficiently get good opportunities with various game. I also greatly appreciated that Shingi was willing to hunt as long as we needed and wanted to for any important animal on my list.
To summarize: I would be happy to hunt with Elephant Trails Safaris again in the future!

A true western hunting experience!
The ability to go deep into public land in search for quality game via horse and pack mules. The hunting area is super rugged and conditions were extreme, but that’s where the big boys hang out. My guide, Journey, was fantastic and spotted several top quality Mule Deer which we did pursue. Although unsuccessful, this experience was what I was hoping for. I am going back!
